It’s one of the hardest things one can do. It’s a battle between what the heart knows and what the ego wants to protect. It has become so convenient to deflect and deny responsibility for the results that we get, that we see it on our world’s biggest forums to our children.
It’s very prevalent amongst children and understandably so, their lack of maturity and awareness that their actions have a direct ripple effect in their lives is still being learnt. Where it has become more and more alarming from a societal perspective, has been from the young adults, that still deny its ability to take responsibility for the results in their life.
We have become a society of taking the role of being the victim. “No, it’s because…” “If I only had…” “I wasn’t feeling well…” “It’s a one-off. It will never happen again…”
There’s a fine line between taking responsibility versus acknowledging things that are out of your control. Most people, the “average” person, get’s this confused and will always lean towards making excuses. The opposite holds true to the most successful people in the world, they openly acknowledge where they should have done things differently and make a declaration within themselves, that they will try not to repeat that same process to get the same undesired result that they did before.
Here is a short list to help you be accountable.
- You can’t control:
- Other people’s choices, words and actions
- You can control:
- Your choices, words and actions
- Your emotions
- Your mental toughness
- Your health and wellness
- Your lifestyle
- Your time management
- There is no such thing as an excuse…YOU CREATED YOUR REALITY!
- Doesn’t matter where you are born, currently live, life situation, etc., you have the ability to grow from any beginning or current position that you’re in
- Take responsibility now, before you dig yourself a deeper hole
This has been one of the toughest life concepts for me growing up and especially when I was an athlete. It’s so easy to deflect responsibility and make excuses, but once you accept responsibility for all the results in your life, you will be in full control of your life. I promise, if you acknowledge the responsibility you played in every result you receive, you will determine your life’s success in every facet of your life!
